My Pokerstar's Account Hacked and $677 Stolen

December 31, 2017 6
On Dec.26/17 my Pokerstars account was hacked and the entire balance, roughly $677, was chip dumped (lost intentionally) to one other player named 'DZZZ555' in 22 minutes. I haven't logged into my Pokerstars account for months. The hacker DZZZ555, logged into my account half way around the world. I knew someone logged into my account because Pokerstars sent me an email notifing me someone logged in from a new device and location where they logged in from. I logged into my Pokerstars account to see all money gone and I sent Pokerstars security an email 36 minutes after the hacker logged into my account. 1hour and 16minutes after I emailed Pokerstars, Pokerstars replied "bankroll in your account...is still being investigated". 10hours 40 minutes after the hacker logged into my account Pokerstars gave me an update "Despite our efforts and quick actions we were not able to recover any of the funds". That's worrisome to me because my account was drained at 07:47am, i logged into my Pokerstars account at 7:53 AM and I emailed Pokerstars security at 8:01 AM so not fast actions at all by Pokerstars and Pokerstars allowed an instant cashout. Pokerstars also notified me they have no documentation about the person who cashed out. Pokerstars also won't tell me which withdrawal method was used.

Daniel Negreanu Pokerstar
I have over 10 accounts with money on it in my computer and only my Pokerstars account was hacked. I've been playing at Pokerstars for 14 years, $677 is not that much but I feel I don't want to play on Pokerstars anymore. As I search google I see hundreds if not 1000s of accounts on Pokerstars that got hacked the same way I was with the same generic copy/paste email. Even Daniel Negreanu’s PokerStars account was hacked and $46,000 was lost at the tables. Rumor has it PokerStars gave the money back to Negreanu because he is sponsored by Pokerstars.

Bottom line, Pokerstars should make it mandortory for security features to prevent this from happening again.

Here are the emails between Pokerstars and I:

This is when the hacker logged into my account:

Hello David,

Thank you for contacting us.
We have conducted a full investigation into your account and we believe that your Stars password may have been compromised.

Our facts to support this are as follows:

The logins to your account show no failed attempts; whoever accessed your account knew your password perfectly.

Computer finger printing technology is utilized by our Security Team in order to determine which computer/device your account was accessed from. In this case, our investigation concludes that your account was accessed from a foreign computer/device where no logins were previously detected from. It is therefore possible that your login credentials have been compromised.

With regards to the bankroll in your account, unfortunately, the balance in your account was affected in this case. This is still being investigated.

To conclude this matter, we would like to advise you that we will not be liable for funds lost on your Stars Account. We will not be held liable for any losses as a result of insufficient security measures to ensure that your personal details remain secured. This is in accordance with the sections of our Terms of Service which state your responsibilities as an account owner.

We highly recommend for you to take necessary action in protecting your computer, email and Stars Account along with personal data stored in your computer. This includes, but not limited to; scanning your computer to ensure no harmful software are installed and changing the password in your registered email account and Stars Account as a precautionary measure.

In order to reinstate your account with a new password and Stars PIN, we would like to ask you that you please provide us with:

- Confirmation of your computer/device and email safety.
- A clear digital photo of you holding your ID document. Please make sure that your full name, date of birth and the expiry date of the document are clearly readable.
Finally, you may wish to visit the 'Help & Support' which offers suggestions on keeping your password secure and details about additional security features.

Your cooperation is appreciated.

Jennifer

I had $677 or so in my account. i haven't logged into my pokerstars account in months. I emailed 36 minutes after I got an email that someone had accessed my account. I have Avast anti-virus, no threats detected on scan. I can send photo of me holding my ID. Isn't it simple to find where the funds went?

Best Regards,

David

Hello ,

Thank you for your email.

Regarding your case, as soon as you reported the unauthorized access of your account we started an investigation of the activity. Your account was frozen and the funds were traced. Unfortunately by the time we completed our investigation the funds had been intentionally lost to account 'DZZZ555',which had withdrawn the funds.

Your account was accessed from this new location on 12/26/2017 7:25:53 AM. The person who accessed your account used your email address and correct password to log in. They immediately started playing cash games until the balance had been lost by 2017-12-26 07:47:34. By 2017-12-26 07:51:41 the account that received the funds had already cashed out the funds. Despite our efforts and quick actions we were not able to recover any of the funds.

Please understand that in these cases we cannot refund money when the money is no longer in our possession, when it has left the site.

We rely on the UserID and Password combination to grant access to Stars Accounts trusting that these details will be strong enough and will be kept safe by the account owners. We are logistically unable to prevent every login from a different location until we get confirmation from account owners due to the large number of accounts that have legitimate logins from new locations and the time it would take to complete this confirmation. It is up to each account owner to ensure the security and strength of their login details.

We understand this is not the outcome you were expecting. We can assure you that we took immediate actions to trace and recover any funds available, but unfortunately this was not possible.

We strongly recommend that you file a police report of this incident as someone got access to your PokerStars credentials and personal information. We will cooperate with the authorities if they contact us to assist in their investigation.

Regards,

Chris

Hello,

So, in less than 22 minutes, my account was logged into from an IP half way across the world and all money was chip dumped, around $677, to account 'DZZZ555' and the money was withdrawn from DZZZ555's account right after. I emailed Pokerstars 36 minutes after I got unknown device email.

I haven't used my Pokerstars account for months, I have no idea how they got password. I never gave my login info to anyone. I have avast anti-virus, did full scan, no threats found. I've only played Pokerstars on my laptop. I have checked my email and no one has logged in from another device.

Is there no way to recover the stolen funds DZZZ555 withdrew? What method did he/she withdraw to? Do you not have all his/her personal information and don't you require photo ID to withdraw? Has DZZZ555 account been frozen?

I feel I did nothing wrong and this should never happen. I feel it is not my fault and I should be reimbursed.

I have attached photo of me holding my ID to reinstate my account as requested by Jennifer, Stars Security. But I will probably never play on Pokerstars again

Hello,

I'm a little upset with the generic copy/paste response and not answering any of my questions. I've been a long time player on Pokerstars, around 14 years. I thought my money was safe in there. I've checked all my other accounts, e-wallets and only my Pokerstars account is missing money. I do no share the same password as my email and other accounts, I have anti virus and windows is up to date. I've checked my email login history and no one logged in there except me.

I'm also upset my account was drained so fast and Pokerstars allowed the other user to instantly cashout even with my 36 minute quick response. It also seems Pokerstars did not contact the cashout processor and try to get the withdrawal reversed. Pokerstars does have Photo ID of person who withdrew the money, correct?

Can I also request the hand histories?

Best regards,

David

Winning Poker - It's About More Than Money - Ben Roberts

February 24, 2017 0
Ben Roberts PokerNew players who want to be good students of the game often ask me for advice. In response, I often tell them about emotional stability, which I touched on in my last tip. The next point I’d like to make is that they need to be careful when assessing their own play. That’s because there are a couple of common mistakes new players make that lead them to draw faulty conclusions about the strength of their play.
After playing for a short period of time, say 100 hours, a player starts to develop an opinion about his or her play. They might think they’re playing very well or very poorly, but this conclusion might be far from the truth. The problem is that, in the short term, anything can happen. A player may get very lucky or unlucky and show results that are either far higher or lower than they could ever expect in the long-term. However, over a longer period – say 300 hours or more – a player is going to get a much more accurate view of their ability to beat the game.

So what does this mean for you? In short, I recommend that you keep an eye on your long-term results no matter if you’re in the midst of a hot streak or a cold one. While taking the long view will help you more accurately assess your play, it can’t help you avoid every pitfall along the way.

For example, assume that I’ve played the following games of No-Limit Hold ’em and have managed the following debts and profits:

Game: $1/$2
Hours: 200
Profit/Loss: -$2,000

Game: $2/$4
Hours: 200
Profit/Loss: -$4,000

Game: $25/50
Hours: 30
Profit/Loss: +$36,000

At first glance, it looks like I’m dong pretty well, right? I’ve make a handsome profit of $30,000. Look deeper though and you’ll see that I wouldn’t want to quit my day job because, in fact, I’m doing quite poorly.

To better understand what I mean, don’t think about the actual dollar figures involved but, instead, think of each small blind as a unit. So, in a $1/$2 game, each unit is 1 and in a $25/$50 game each unit is 25.

How have I done in terms of units won and lost? I’ve lost 2,000 units in the $1/$2 game, 2,000 units in the $2/$4 game and won 1,440 units in the $25/$50 game. Total everything up and you’ll see that after 430 hours of play, I’ve lost 2,560 units. This is bad news.

As you keep records of your sessions, be sure to record the size of the game you’re playing and number of units you’ve won or lost. At the start of your poker career, put more emphasis on units won or lost than on your total profit. It’s a more accurate gauge as to whether you’re playing winning poker.

Daniel Negreanu - Value Bet or Check-Call? Video

February 21, 2017 5
Daniel Negreanu talks about a hand between Christian Harder(winner of the tournament) vs Mike Gentili from the tournament PokerStars Championship - Bahamas. Negreanu thinks value betting the river is the better play but I think value betting there opens the chance to get bluffed with a reraise. Negreanu could be right that is it more profitable in the long run. What do you think?

New Domain PokerRoot.com and SharkScope Graph

February 21, 2017 2
Sharkscope Graph

It's been 5 years since I posted to this blog. I created a new domain, PokerRoot.com. My previous domain poker006.com expired and someone bought it. So far it's been a lot of work updating all the links and there's still 1000+ broken links on this blog; I just have to find an easy way to do it. I wanted a simple website name, with 'poker' in the title and easy to remember. There's a few meanings of the word root, it could mean fundamental or essential part or the source or origin of a thing.

I have some new goals for the blog:
-Post regularly
-Share the best no deposit bonuses and deposit bonuses
-Build my bankroll back up to over $10k (I cashed everything out except for $688 on Pokerstars), In total I've made over 10k
-Share poker news and interesting articles
-Join poker communities/forums

The best website to chat in the forums is Bankrollmob because you get paid 10 points ($0.10) every post over 100 characters and max 5 a day but you also get points for other things and you can cashout out to pokerroom or ewallet like Skrill once you get 5000 points ($50).

Best website for free no deposit bankrolls, deposit bonuses and free videos and articles is Pokerstrategy.

I started playing poker on pokerstars with 9 man Sit and Go's for play money and I found out people buy play chips for real money. 9 man Sit and go's just seemed easy, play tight and place top 3 and cash in the money. I got $160 for 16million pokerstars play chips(Now only worth $2-$5 per million play chips) and I started playing $1 and then $5 sit and gos, I tried $10 was just about break ever in $10. I eventually moved onto cashgame NL 25 and NL 50 and I just withdrew money and deposited it wherever I got the best deposit bonus. I cashed out $9000 USD cheque and a few smaller cheques. I've played a little bit live but there's no close casinos in Toronto, Ontario. Closest is Niagara Falls which is around 3 hour drive. I'll continue my story another day here is Sharkscope graph of my Sit and gos on Pokerstars:

A poker sponsorship is basically when a company/person gives money to a poker player and then the poker player has to do do something in return (for example play 500 hands of poker).

Why does PokerInside offer sponsorships?
Because the Pokerrooms pay PokerInside to bring them customers.

Why would you be interested in a poker sponsorship?
  • Because there is no risk, you get free money and if you lose it there is no consequence
  • Also, you may not have enough money to play poker
PokerInside has a point system where you are awarded Nibs for doing various things. Here are some basics about Nibs

What are Nibs and what are they used for?
Nibs are equivalent to Pokerstar's VPPs but the difference is Nibs do not expire. The more Nibs you have, the higher VIP status you have at PokerInside. Also, PokerInside also states that "you can also use your Nibs in our PI Store (coming soon) to buy cool gear or freeroll tokens for real cash prizes!"

How do you earn Nibs?

Here are some of the ways I earned Nibs, there are more ways you can find out by going to PokerInside and hovering over "My PI" tab, then click "VIP progress"
  • Complete profile, earn 100 Nibs
  • Post in forum, earn 2 Nibs for each post you make (max of 10 nibs per day)
  • Join a Team - join any team and earn 100 Nibs (Post below if you want to join my team)
  • Poker Nibs - You earn these while playing at a pokerroom with your free sponsorship!
  • Enter MoneyBookers email - Earn 50 Nibs when you enter your MoneyBooker.com email address in My Payment Accounts
What are you waiting for, signup to PokerInside now and get your free poker sponsorship and start earning your Nibs! Also check out more details about how to register for Betmost Poker sponsorship.

P.S. Don't forget to check out the Poker Babes at PokerInside! I'll post some images below.

Pokerstars - Platnium Star Challenge

May 04, 2012 3
Hey guys, it's been a while since I played online poker. I guess busy with life and gf but gf no longer so back to poker lol. Pokerstars had a reload bonus so I deposited $500 to take advantage of the full bonus. So I have a $250 pending bonus and I worked off $20 of it but lost $130 so far which sucks.. I think lately I am just running bad because I usually get all in with the best of it. Like today I had aces cracked by kings then not too long after by jacks.

Anyway, I stared playing the Zoom tables on Pokerstars. The ones where you fold and you get sent to another table with a new hand to play. I really like the zoom games, I didn't think I would but the game goes by so much faster and if you fold then you don't have to wait for the next hand. I play 2 zoom table at once, I'm pretty sure I can play 3 or even 4 but for now I'll play 2 until decisions become more routine.
By the way, Pokerstars has 8 billionth hand coming up soon, there's prizes being given away right now just by playing at cash game table unfortunately no prizes for Zoom players. Also, if you are dealt billionth hand, you get at least $20k. Right now, it's at around 79,900,000,000 hand.
There will be 300 regular milestone hands, and a final Mega Milestone in each Road to 100 Billion celebration. For the 80 Billion celebration, it’s hand #79,700,000,000 to #80,000,000,000. Next up after that will be 85,000,000,000, so keep checking back to find out more.
Please Note: Hands dealt on Zoom tables are not eligible for milestone hand prizes. To win a prize, you must be playing on one of our regular cash game tables.

So, I have 560 VPP points so far for this month, my goal was at least to reach Gold star of 3000 VPP but I think I can hit the Platnium Star at 7500 VPP points.

Anyway, here a couple big hands I won. I couldn't believe I got action on quad 4s :) One actually had 7s Full and the other had a straight. The second hand, I pushed all in on the turn just to make sure she would call if she had a flush draw.. I still ended up -$25 today, crazy.

Anyway, if you want to play on Pokerstars, you can get $600 deposit bonus here: Pokerstars $600 Deposit Bonus
